Ed officially joined us on August the 3rd!
Eddie Todd grew up in Amarillo. His parents started him hunting, fishing,
and camping as soon as he could walk. They bought a little ranch on the Canadian
River and as Ed grew he began exploring that area on dirt bikes and on foot.
Racing dirt bikes became his passion and exploring new places his hobby.
After graduating from Alamo Catholic High School he started working as a Roughneck
in the oil fields of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Drilling rigs are a sometimes
extremely hostile and always a dangerous environment, which appealed to his
adventurous spirit. Working outdoors, 16 hour days for ten years he survived
everything form freezing 80 degree below chill factors to 107 degree heat
waves.
No stranger to danger in fact he tends to drift toward it. By the age of 27
he lost most of his family to cancer. Now an Amarillo business man he has
been able to enjoy volunteer work. Not being part of a K-9 search and rescue
team any longer since his dog passed away has left room for something new.
He and Richard met Louis on the Arkansas River on a white water rafting trip.
Louis told Richard about this fund raiser and he in turn told Ed.
“Richard asked me if I wanted to spend a month kayaking down the Mississippi
river to help find cancer cures for children and I said sign me up!”
“Ever since cancer took my family away, I felt like if I could hunt
it down and shoot it, I would. It’s such a helpless feeling not being
able to do anything but now I am supporting a team that actually does hunt
the disease down and shoot it. It’s a great thing!”
